Common Questions

What should I wear?

Long pants (no shorts), sturdy leather footwear — work boots or solid leather shoes — and a shirt that covers your shoulders. Don't wear sneakers: most have mesh uppers that can melt if a spark lands on them. Avoid loose or flowy clothing that could catch on equipment.

Do I need to bring my own welding gear?

No. We provide helmets, gloves, and all required PPE. If you have your own gear, you're welcome to bring it.

Can I bring a friend to watch?

Only registered students are allowed on the shop floor during class — that is a safety limit, not a headcount one. If you want to bring someone, book them their own seat and they can take the class with you. Anyone not taking the class is welcome to wait in the lounge.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Contact us at least 48 hours before your class for a full refund or reschedule.

Do I need any prior experience?

Not at all. Our classes are designed for complete beginners. The prep videos we send will give you a head start.

Where do I park?

Free parking is available directly in front of the shop. Look for the Tarrant County Makerspace sign.

How much does a welding class cost?

Evening classes (MIG Mondays, TIG Tuesdays and Stick Thursdays) are $249 for 3 hours. The 1-day MIG weekend class is $299 for 6 hours, and you build a charcoal grill to take home. All safety gear is provided.

Where is the makerspace?

8151 White Settlement Road, White Settlement, TX 76108, just west of Fort Worth. Free parking is right in front of the shop.
